A Deeper Understanding of Student PerformanceMomentum Literacy makes it easy to determine where students are and what they need to meet grade-level expectations. Easy-to-read reporting provides both an overall score and proficiency category, as well as a separate score and proficiency category for each domain. Momentum Literacy then drills in further to the standard level, showing each student’s relative strengths — and where they may need more support to achieve grade-level goals.

View Performance at Every LevelEasy-to-read reports show overall performance at the class, grade, school, or district level, helping educators and administrators to identify needs and allocate resources for whole-group, small-group, and individual instruction, as well as differentiation and intervention.
-
At-a-Glance Performance CategoriesIn addition to providing scaled scores and percentile ranks, Momentum Literacy reports use color-coded labels to make it clear whether student or class performance meets, exceeds, approaches, or does not meet grade-level expectations.
-
Growth Progress ReportsGrowth reports help educators see both class and individual student performance throughout the year, visually outlining their journey toward year-end proficiency. Growth reports are also available for administrators, which can be filtered by year, grade, school, class, and more to gain a closer look at assessment data.
-

What domains does Momentum Literacy assess in each grade?
Momentum Literacy is tailored to assess the literacy skills that are most essential to students’ success in each grade:
- Emergent Literacy skills — that is, letter recognition and letter-sound correspondence — are assessed at the beginning of Kindergarten.
- Listening Comprehension is also assessed at the beginning of Kindergarten.
- Foundational Skills — such as print concepts, phonological awareness, and phonics/word recognition — are assessed in Grades K-3.
- Vocabulary skills — such as a student’s knowledge of word meanings, as well as their ability to use context clues, word parts (morphology), and reference materials to determine word meaning — are assessed in Grades K-8.
- Comprehension skills — such as the ability to identify key ideas and details, analyze text structure and author’s craft, compare and contrast sources, and evaluate evidence — are assessed in Grades K-8. Momentum Literacy provides separate domain scores for Comprehension: Literature and Comprehension: Informational Text.
-
What is a Lexile measure?A Lexile® measure is a numerical representation of a student’s reading ability. Because Lexile measures are used nationally, they can be used to compare a student’s performance with that of their peers — and even forecast future performance.
-
Can educators export and share Momentum Literacy data?Within Momentum Literacy, the Realize Reports feature allows administrators to export data via email, SFTP, or Google Drive™ for easy collaboration. You can even schedule recurring exports — daily, weekly, or monthly — to reduce the time spent on manual data pulls.
-
How can Momentum Literacy reliably assess students in just one class period?Momentum Literacy uses a multi-stage adaptive approach that starts with a student’s grade level. From there, the assessment automatically adjusts the difficulty of items based on the student’s performance on the prior stage, so that students at lower proficiency levels see low-difficulty items and students at higher proficiency levels see high-difficulty items on the next stage.
This allows for a more precise measurement of students’ knowledge and skills, targeted to their current level of literacy achievement.
